Phileas Fogg, having shut the door of his house at half-past eleven, and having put his right foot before his left five hundred and seventy-five times, and his left foot before his right five hundred and seventy-six times, reached the Reform Club

About This Quote

Phileas Fogg is a character in Anthony Trollope's novel "The Way We Live Now." He is the namesake for Foggia, the largest city in the province of Campania in central Italy. Phileas Fogg is a fastidious man who always takes the same route to his destination. His method of travel is also quite similar to that of his namesake, Phileas Fogg, who was a British businessman and traveler who made his way around the world in 80 days. Fogg was known for having an uncanny ability to fit exactly five hundred and seventy-five times into each leg of his journey, even when he had to travel through the night.
